What people ask most.

What is a laiki?
A laiki (λαϊκή αγορά, plural laikes) is the weekly open-air street market found in every Greek neighbourhood. Farmers and traders set up stalls along a street from early morning to early afternoon, selling fruit and vegetables, fish, eggs, olives, honey, flowers and household goods, usually fresher and often cheaper than the supermarket.
Which days are the markets on?
In Attica, laikes run from Monday to Saturday, in a different neighbourhood each day. There are none on Sundays. In total there are 373 markets a week, 277 in Athens and 96 in Thessaloniki, with Tuesday the busiest day.
What time do they open and close?
Most run from 07:00 to 14:30, but hours vary by market. The app shows the exact hours of each market and how long until it closes.
How do I know if a market has moved?
Because of roadworks, holidays or traffic changes, a laiki often moves to another street. The app shows today's street, the usual street, why it moved and until when.
When are the best prices?
Early morning gets you the best quality at normal prices. Towards closing time prices usually drop, especially for anything sold by the kilo. The app shows what stage of the day each market is in right now.
Is the app in English?
Yes. The iPhone app is in English and Greek and follows your phone's language; you can switch it in Profile. This website has the full schedule in English, with market and street names in both Latin and Greek letters, so you can match them to the street signs.
Do I need an account or to pay?
No. It's free, needs no account, has no ads and also works offline.
Which areas are covered?
All of Attica, from central Athens to the suburbs, and Thessaloniki, based on the official farmers' market schedule. In Thessaloniki the official operator currently lists 96 markets, Monday to Saturday, and new ones are added automatically.

The full schedule, open to all.
